On my way to Brum, I hope this will still be on the Library…

Return of the MAC

It was the @mac_birmingham opening on Saturday so I had to go and see the £15million renovated establishment. I must say the studios for digital media, clay modelling and jewellery studios were amazing. I Was also taken back with the amount of Apple Macs there. Macs at the Mac…

Can’t wait for the arena to open in July too, some open air fun in the sun.

Will definitely looking forward to spending time there this summer.

Check out the website for future events and workshops.

Here are some TTV’s I took on Saturday.

The 4amproject

I just got back from the #4amproject at the @bm_ag aka The Birmingham museum collections centre in aid for the Birmingham City of Culture 2013bid.

Was it all a dream?!

At 3:00am the alarm ‘politely’ woke us up to go to the event, and typically the thought of only having 2 hours sleep and not finishing my dream forced me to say “I’ll set a 10 minute alarm”. Luckily we woke up and got ready in time to drive down to the collections centre, which might I add is in a bit of a scary area at 4am in the morning. Glad we drove there! Luckily we had the welcoming beaming lights of the other 4amproject crews cars to help guide us to the car park.

A cheerful ‘hi’ to the fellow photographers as we entered and then a brisk walk into the briefing room to let us know some rules and regulations.
I couldn’t help but feel somewhat inadequate and intimated by the amount of high end photographic equipment and that resulted in me feeling somewhat ant-like bringing out my simple but reliable Canon Powershot SX120.

Why did I not think to bring my, 3d camera, ttv, fish eye lense and slr? oh well…Digital camera it is.

We were off again to the exhibition area and there we were met by a skeleton of a cow. I felt excited, confused and satisfied.
From that moment on things good only get better.
10 or so rows full of old museum artefacts from the past few centuries.
I was in photographic heaven, but I had to remember I only had 1 hour, so clickity clock I tried to cover everything and even managed to get in some good old textures shots.

Vintage cars, bikes, buses, engines, piano’s, machinery, stuffed birds, fridges carvings and a mummy later I took a moment to reflect and smiled at what I had just saw in that hour.

For that smile I am grateful, for that it was worth the alarm, the lost dream and the night drive to Nechells.

That was my night (or morning) in the museum.

I know its a bit of a cliché but it really is a hidden gem for Birmingham, you should definitely go and see it for yourself 3rd May for their open day.

I look forward to more events with the 4amproject in the near future, lets just hope my body clock doesn’t get used to staying awake till 4am like it did in my old student days.

***All my photo’s will be uploaded to my flickr and tagged to #4amproject and #bmag later today.
Keep an eye out.

A huge thanks to @karenstrunks who is the clever director for 4amproject.

~Forgive me as I am writing this with 2 hours sleep, so if you can’t understand the above you know why. (Just look at the pictures instead)

AlphaBrum

After seeing this article about Rhett Dashwood a while ago, I decided it would be a good use of 2 hours to distract myself by using google maps as a tool for a typography experiment.

So here it is, the alphabet using google maps for areas in Birmingham.
